KlimaEcho project lead
Program director MA Interaction Design
The goal of the KlimaEcho research project is to foster understanding of climate change and to encourage engagement with it through interaction design and virtual reality.
The focus is on rising sea levels and the many facets of their impact. Concrete scenarios are developed on the basis of climate data and realised as a VR experience, which will subsequently remain permanently available in the XR Lab at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences or be provided in documented form. Another goal is to develop interaction design patterns in order to determine which design criteria create a lasting KlimaEcho.
Concept workshop in the project team
In an internal concept workshop, the team presented the current status of the VR experience and gathered specific feedback. Through joint discussion, strengths were identified and open issues were brought to light — an important step in further developing the concept in a focused manner and refining key design ideas.

Development of initial VR prototypes
Our LoFi VR levels have been gradually expanded into fully-fledged prototypes. Revised level structures, integrated room and object models, and initial interactive elements provide a stable foundation for upcoming tests. These further developments help us to refine the spatial atmosphere, interaction, and dramaturgy of the experience in a targeted manner.
